With Livesignage, you can manage videowalls
made up of multiple side-by-side displays, creating one large screen to show
your content.
To create a videowall, you need three
things:
- At least two side-by-side displays
- Daisy chain connection between the
displays
- An external media player with the
Livesignage app installed
Important: a videowall, in this context,
refers to a set of horizontal displays. If you are creating an installation
with vertical displays, it is considered an artwall. In that case, please
contact our support team: assistenza@livesignage.comHorizontal displays can be arranged to
create:
- A perfectly 16:9 area, ideal for
horizontal content
- A custom configuration, different from
16:9
Below are instructions for both configurations.
Videowall with square grid (e.g. 2x2 or 3x3) and 16:9
content
Use these settings if you’re building a
videowall with the same number of displays in width and height (e.g. 2x2, 3x3).
In this case, the resulting surface will
have a perfect format for displaying 16:9 horizontal content.
Steps:
- Connect the displays in daisy chain,
following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Connect the media player to the first
display in the chain.
- Add the media player on Livesignage
using the standard procedure. (click here to browse the guide)
- In the “resolution” field, select
“Standard Full-HD or 4K”.

- Create a horizontal playlist and assign
it to the media player.
From this point on, you’ll be able to
schedule and manage content normally, using all the software’s features:
playlists, apps, widgets, and more.
Videowall with custom grid
Use these settings if you’re creating a
non-square videowall, meaning a different number of displays in width and
height. In these cases, the final format won’t be
exactly 16:9, but you can still manage it easily with Livesignage.
Examples:
- 3x2 (3 displays wide, 2 high)
- 4x1 (4 displays in a row)
- 2x1 (just two side-by-side displays)
How to configure it:
- Connect the displays in daisy chain,
configuring the videowall as if it were 16:9. For example, if you're creating a
4x1, configure it as a 4x4.
- Connect the media player to the first
display.
- When adding the media player on
Livesignage, select a custom resolution.
Warning: these dimensions do NOT correspond
to the real resolution of the displays, but must be calculated as if you are
displaying only a portion of a full 16:9 videowall. The width is always 1920,
while the height depends on the portion you want to show. For example, in a 4x1
setup, imagine a full 4x4 wall and calculate the height as one-fourth of 1080.
For a 4x2, the height is two-fourths, and so on.
The formula is:
Width: 1920 (always the same)
Height: 1080 ÷ number of displays in width
× number of rows used
Here are some practical examples:
Videowall 2x1 (2 displays in a row, 1 row
used)
- Configured as a 2x2
- Height: 1080 ÷ 2 × 1 = 540
- 👉 Resolution to set: 1920x540
Videowall 3x2 (3 in a row, 2 rows used)
- Configured as a 3x3
- Height: 1080 ÷ 3 × 2 = 720
- 👉 Resolution to set: 1920x720
Videowall 4x1 (4 in a row, 1 row used)
- Configured as a 4x4
- Height: 1080 ÷ 4 × 1 = 270
- 👉 Resolution to set: 1920x270
Once you've added the media player, you can
start inserting content. Check out the official guide to learn how
to manage non-standard content.
